How it works

From interview invitation to confident answers

Interview prep works from the role you have already saved, so the job description, your tailored resume, and your career evidence are ready when the invitation arrives.

01

Move the role to Interview

Interview prep unlocks in the role's Launchpad as soon as the application reaches the Interview stage.

02

Match your STAR stories

NextOrbit picks the stories from your vault that best fit the role and explains why each one is relevant.

03

Predict the questions

Get six likely questions for this job, each with a note on what the interviewer is really testing.

04

Draft and get coaching

Write your answer, then see what landed, the one change that would help most, and which story to draw on.

Evidence before answers

Walk in with the right stories, not a script

The strongest interview answers are real examples told clearly. NextOrbit keeps your STAR Stories in one vault, then selects the ones that best answer what this employer is looking for. It only chooses from stories you have written, so every example is one you can explain and defend.

  • See each matched story's situation, task, action, and result in one place.
  • Read why each story fits this particular role.
  • Reuse the same evidence that shaped your resume and cover letter.

Questions for this job

Prepare for the questions about your gaps

3

Behavioural

How you have handled situations the role will bring.

2

Technical or domain

The skills and knowledge the job description asks for.

1

Culture fit

How you would work within this team and organisation.

The STAR method

How to structure a STAR interview answer

Behavioural questions such as "Tell me about a time when..." are easiest to answer with the STAR method. It keeps your answer specific, focused on what you did, and short enough to follow. See six worked STAR method examples.

  1. S: Situation

Set the scene in one or two sentences: where you were, and what was happening.

  2. T: Task

Explain what you were responsible for, or the problem you needed to solve.

  3. A: Action

Spend most of your answer here. Describe the steps you personally took, using "I" rather than "we".

  4. R: Result

Finish with the outcome and, where you can, a measure of it. Add what you learned if the result was mixed.

On the day

A checklist for every interview

Each role in the Interview stage has a day-of checklist, and every upcoming interview round appears in one view with a link to add it to Google Calendar.

  • Technical setup tested: camera, mic, and screen share
  • Interview panel researched on LinkedIn
  • Three questions ready to ask the interviewer
  • Salary range research confirmed
  • Tailored resume reviewed and ready
  • Route or dial-in tested

Frequently asked questions

AI interview prep questions

What is AI interview prep?

AI interview prep uses the job description and your background to predict likely interview questions, suggest which of your experiences to talk about, and give feedback on your answers. It works best when it draws on real examples you can explain in the room.

Does NextOrbit make up STAR stories for me?

No. STAR matching only selects stories that already exist in your own vault and explains why each one fits the role. If your vault is empty, add your STAR stories first.

What kind of interview questions does NextOrbit generate?

Each run gives six questions specific to the job description: three behavioural, two technical or domain questions, and one culture-fit question. Each one comes with a short note on what the interviewer is really testing. If resume tailoring identified gaps, at least two questions probe those gaps.

Is NextOrbit a live mock interview tool?

No. NextOrbit coaches written answers rather than running a live voice or video mock interview. You draft an answer to a likely question and get specific feedback on what worked, the single most important improvement, and which of your stories to draw on.

What is the STAR method?

The STAR method is a way to structure answers to behavioural interview questions: describe the Situation, the Task you were responsible for, the Action you took, and the Result. It keeps answers specific and focused on what you personally did.
